Muse Profile
Rob Haskew/Eleven17 Productions Rob Haskew is one of the unsung leaders of a local art movement that has yet to realize it is an art movement. Since 1998 Rob has organized over 10 local art shows/events in the Tampa Bay area. I say events because his shows not only feature local artists, but also incorporate live music, DJ's and video to provide a melding pot of artistic influences. The effect is one of sensory stimulation and creativity rather than the static viewing of art on walls. Rob and his production company Eleven17's latest outing was the Faces show May 22nd, 2008 at the Czar Bar in Ybor City. Clearly his most ambitious show to date, it featured 25 local and national artists, music by DJ Cub, and an exciting night of live experimental music from the recent surge of the Tampa Bay area experimental music scene. Rob's shows are a labor of love and when asked about his motivation he said, "Initially, I was inspired by Gala Corina to start organizing shows. At that point, I didn't believe there was an art scene in Tampa. Gala Corina proved otherwise." Ultimately Rob would like to have his own space to showcase art. Who is Rob Haskew? " I'm 34, born in Miami, raised in Bartow, lived in Tampa for most of my adult life, lived in St Louis for a couple years. I organized my first art show back in 1998, mainly for my friends. It was held at 403 chaos, a record store/venue - now closed." Rob's thoughts on the local arts scene: "It seems like the scene is growing. It might appear that way because I'm involved in it. I'm sure from an outside perspective the Tampa scene might seem stagnant. It certainly isn't obvious." Tampa truly has a friend of the arts in Rob Haskew and that is what this art community certainly needs more of. contact: http://www.myspace.com/rhasq

4 silly questions for Rob H. 1. What was the last film you watched? (a) The last good film I saw was Death at a Funeral. 2. If you were on a desert island what 3 cd's would you want with you? (a) Bright Eyes "Letting off the Happiness", M83 "Before the Dawn Heals Us", Aislers Set "Terrible Things Happen". 3. analog or digital? (a) I actually really love digital for the convenience. I still own tapes and records though. It really just boils down to the music I guess. 4. Pink Floyd or Legendary Pink dots? (a) Both are equally great, though Pink Floyd has more forgettable releases. The Dots have been consistently great throughout. |
